Item Specifics

Natural Planet Organics Dog Food is a dry, easily digestible dog food. It includes nutrient rich grains and organic brown rice to provide a balanced nutrition for your pup. While this food is not grain-free, it does not include filler low nutrient grains like wheat or corn. It instead includes flaxseed and brown rice. Whole grains are better, healthier, and more easily digested by your furry friend.

Natural Planet Organics Dog Food features a lot of organic ingredients. However, there are a few ingredients that are somewhat controversial. The ingredients included in this dog food are as follows: Organic chicken, chicken meal, organic oats, organic barley, organic peas, natural turkey and chicken flavor, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), organic brown rice, organic flaxseed, calcium carbonate, tomato pomace, organic sunflower oil, potassium chloride, dried brewers yeast, salt, minerals (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, cobalt proteinate, manganese proteinate, selenium yeast), blueberries, choline chloride, organic alfalfa meal, organic sunflower seeds, organic pumpkin seeds, organic carrots, broccoli, vitamins (vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), chicory extract, lecithin, lactic acid, sage, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), yucca schidigera extract, garlic, calcium iodate, rosemary extract, yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation extract. The top 10 ingredients are mostly organic, which the exception of the chicken meal and fat. The only real controversial ingredient is the brewers yeast. Many believe that this is linked to allergies. However, allergies to yeast are extremely rare in dogs and cats, and brewers yeast is rich in minerals and other healthy nutrients. If your dog is in fact allergic to yeast, then by all means avoid this. If not, there really should be no problem.

While Nature Planet Organics Dog Food does not carry a USDA certified organic seal, it is still in fact certified organic. Their pet food is certified organic by OTCO, which is Oregon Tilth Certified Organic. There is no information on why it is not USDA certified, or why it only carries the OTCO seal. The only other seal featured is a certification for "Made in U.S.A." which proves that all ingredients are sourced and made in the US. Often, foreign sourced ingredients tend to be much lower quality, especially when it comes to organic.

This brand of dog food is all about featuring the best nutrients to keep your dog happy. Most of their pet food includes flaxseeds which are a rich source of Omega-3 and 6 Fatty Acid that is used to help maintain healthy skin and coat, as well as supports healthy joints. None of their food features any wheat or corn, which are carb rich grains that carry little nutrients. They instead include ingredients like flaxseed, kelp, brown rice, and other while grains.

About This Company

Natural Planet Organics Dog Food is ultimately under the parent company of the family owned KLN Family Brands. However, their direct company is NutriSource. NutriSource was started after Darrell Nelson began Pine Lakes Feed. Pine Lakes Feed ran for 39 years, manufacturing economy line pet food, until Nelson jumped into the Super Premium Pet Food Industry. In 2007, he expanded with their Hollistic line of Pet Food called Pure Vita. Finally in 2009, Natural Planet was introduced as their Organic line of pet food.

Now, they manufacture a bunch of pets foods. 5 different organic dry dog foods, 2 organic wet dog food, a line of organic dog treats, one organic dry cat food and 2 organic wet cat foods.

Pros:

Natural Planet Organics Dog Food is indeed certified organic, but not by USDA. They hold a certification by OTCO, Oregon Tilth Certified Organic.

The very first, along with the majority of the top 10, ingredients are organic. It all starts with organic chicken and goes from there. The second best ingredient is organic flaxseed.

This dog food has a rich source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid. This helps maintain a healthy skin and coat, as well as helps to support healthy joints.

Natural Planet Organics have a wide range of pet foods. They have 5 different dry recipes of dog food, along with 2 wet dog food variants. Not only that, but they also have a wet and dry cat food options as well. So they are looking out for either of your pets.

Cons:

Unfortunately, Natural Planet Organics Dog Food does not hold a certification by the USDA. While they are certified by OTCO, it does not carry as much weight as a seal from USDA does. Nevertheless, the dog food is still certified organic by an organization with authority to do so.

Final Thoughts:

Organic is in the name and organic is what is inside. Even though it is only certified by OTCO, they are still an organic certifying authority so it counts. While it would have been nice to see that big ol' USDA seal, this one will do. Overall, it seems that there is a good reason why people really like this dog food. It has great stuff inside the bag, and a great company behind it all. So, yeah, this is definitely a premium quality dog food. It's not grain free, but at least they feature whole grains instead of filler, cheap grains.
