Avoid Using Electronics
This may seem like an old wives tale, however, electronics do dramatically affect our sleeping habits. Sure, you may find that you can fall asleep in front of the television or your computer. However, the lighting of the screen can keep you awake longer. Have you ever notice that you can stay awake and type an essay even when you’re exhausted from finals? Well, that’s because the lights of the screen are designed to keep your eyes alert. The same goes for phones and tablets. Therefore, putting the electronics away before you hop into bed can help you fall asleep faster. If you like to watch something on Netflix to wind down, then try and limit how much you watch in bed. An episode of your favorite show won’t have as much of an effect on your sleeping pattern as binge watching 5 episodes will.
Use Essential Oils to Fall Asleep
You’ve probably heard of these things called essential oils. There is a time and a place to use them. And let me tell you, the time and place is any day and anywhere. There are essential oils that can clean your house better than chemicals, make your plants live longer, and help you fall asleep. You can rub some on your feet or you can put the oils in a diffuser. The smell of the essential oils can help you relax and fall asleep quickly.
Avoid Eating Certain Foods
Meals that are high in carbs can make it harder for you to fall asleep. However, meals that are higher in fat will help you to have a restful night’s sleep. Not only is it important to eat the right type of food, but you shouldn’t eat dinner too close to the time that you go to bed. Therefore, you should try and eat no later than 4 hours before you go to bed. If your schedule doesn’t allot time for you to eat 4 hours before bed, then that’s ok. You can eat a smaller meal before you go to bed. This should help you to fall asleep faster than eating a large meal right before bed.
A good herbal tea can work wonders for your body. If you drink it a little bit before bed, then it can help your body to relax. The key to falling asleep quickly is to be relaxed and comfortable. The warm tea can help to relax your muscles and ease any tension that you have within your body.
