Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter Review
Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter is a no stir peanut butter. This means that there is something added to the butter to make it not separate. But what is that? They currently have a 4.4 star review on Amazon, and a badge for Amazon's Choice. So why do people love this so much, and what are the added ingredients?
At first look, Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter seems like just another "Natural" marketing scheme with their no stir label. Typically "no-stir" means that there is added stuff to keep the natural oils from separating from the butter. These are usually various oils, either hydrogenated vegetable oil or palm oil. In this case, it is palm oil. While palm oil does have a handful of health benefits, the worry comes from the environmental impact the oil has. Natural Peanut butter should only have two ingredients, but many also add a few others to make it more appetizing. Regular peanut butter is filled with artificial additives, but with Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter, their added ingredients are both natural.
Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter has a few more ingredients than other natural peanut butters. The complete ingredients list for this brand includes peanuts, cane sugar, palm fruit oil, and salt. Now, while many people may ignore this brand purely for the addition of sugar and oil, it is not all bad. The palm oil does not contain any cholesterol or trans fat, which is the biggest issue with added oils. The sugar is also pure cane sugar, which as far as sugar is concerned, is far better for you than corn syrup or refined sugar. But at the same time, these ingredients do not make this product truly natural peanut butter.
When looking at the nutritional facts for Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter , it looks all pretty much the same. There are 180 calories in this brand of peanut butter, 130 of which come from fat. You'll be getting 15g of fat with 2.5g being saturated fat, 100mg of sodium, 8g of total carbs including 2g of dietary fiber and 3g of sugar, as well as 7g of protein. But the only daily value you will be getting is 4% of iron.
While all of that is pretty standard, the difference comes with the fat content, as there is more calories from fat because of the added sugar and palm oil. However, there is zero cholesterol and zero trans fat, which is absolutely great to see.
Organic Peanut Butter
The term "natural" is thrown around a lot when it comes to marketing and branding products. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of regulations or standards around that term. It is not like Organic, which has a seal certified by the USDA behind it to back up the claims. However, the natural world is not a barren wasteland. For a product to be labelled natural peanut butter, it has to contain 90% peanuts with no artificial sweeteners, colors, or preservatives. But that is pretty much it. Many natural peanut butter products still contain a bunch of stuff that you probably do not want in your body. So what does the best natural peanut butter actually have in it? Well peanuts of course, and a pinch of salt. That is it. Honestly, that is literally it. No oils, no sugars, so additives. Just peanuts and salt. A bit surprising right?
There are a lot of "natural" peanut butter products out there and most of the time you have to struggle with that weird separation of the oils from the butter. This is because they add various oils in the butter to give it that consistency and to make it easier to spread. And you will get this issue with the best natural peanut butter as well, but it will be rare. Truly natural peanut butter does have natural oils which may separate from the butter, but it will not be as much as when other oils are added.
About This Company
Peanut Butter & Co. has been making peanut butter since 1998. They have various peanut butter options available, but all of them are only made with natural ingredients. Their passion is centered around making peanut butter, but also around healthy living. All of their products contain no GMOs, no hydrogenated oils, cholesterol, trans fats, or high fructose corn syrup. In addition, their products are gluten free, vegan, and certified kosher.
Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter uses only natural ingredients. Even the added oil and sugar are naturally sourced and not artificial.
This peanut butter is entirely natural, vegan, GMO-free, Kosher, dairy free, and has no trans fats. Oh, and it is 100% made in the USA.
This peanut butter is certified non-GMO, gluten free, vegan, kosher, and Halal. In addition, the palm oil that is used in this peanut butter is sustainably sourced.
The biggest thing with Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter is that they added sugar and oil into their otherwise natural peanut butter. While the added ingredients are still natural and sustainably sourced, it does not really need it.
Another complaint was that there had seemed to be flakes of the lid in their peanut butter. This is concerning as the last thing you want is to ingest flakes of plastic.
Truly natural peanut butter, like I stated before, should really only contain peanuts and salt. But even though Peanut Butter & Co. Peanut Butter does include palm oil and cane sugar, I would 100% still consider this a natural product. There are no health risks with the palm oil and the sugar is not enough to increase the risk of any health issues. Would I have liked to see this without those two ingredients, sure. Am I going to condemn this brand for the use of them? Absolutely not. But I understand if you want to avoid this brand because of those ingredients.

Even with the added oil and sugar, they are both sustainably and naturally sourced, which keeps this product in the realm of natural peanut butter.
