5 Delicious and Nutritious Foods that Naturally Lower Cholesterol

Our bodies are complex and sensitive. Sure, there’s a lot that our bodies can handle. However, a poor diet is basically a one-way ticket to sick-ville. Having a diet that’s high in fats and unhealthy food can be a cause for cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, and other serious and life-threatening illnesses and conditions. Today, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. There are 5 delicious and nutritious foods that can naturally lower cholesterol. If you’re concerned that your diet might be causing high cholesterol, then adding these foods to your meals can help ease your worry.

A Lower Cholesterol Level Should Be Your Goal

Having high cholesterol can be dangerous. There are 2 types of cholesterol. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) is the “bad” type of cholesterol. LDL clogs your arteries with fat deposits and can restrict your blood flow. High density lipoprotein (HDL) is the “good” type of cholesterol. This is the type of cholesterol that your body needs to produce healthy cells. If you have high cholesterol, then you’re more likely to develop heart disease and other serious health issues. Therefore, high cholesterol is a serious issue. However, there are ways that you can prevent yourself from having it. Eating a healthy, balanced diet and exercising regularly is the best way to prevent yourself from having high cholesterol. Also, high cholesterol can be inherited. However, you won’t always have it just because your grandparents do. High cholesterol doesn’t have any symptoms. Therefore, it’s important that you start preventing and treating it, now.

Nuts

Nuts are a great source of protein and a great way to lower cholesterol. Almonds and walnuts are especially skilled in lowering high cholesterol. Almonds are high in amino acids that reduce your blood pressure. Also, walnuts have omega-3’s that help your heart. These are nutrient-dense foods, which means that they’re going to produce HDL, the good type of cholesterol. Add almonds and walnuts to your diet and your heart will thank you.

Fish

Salmon and Mackerel are high in fat. These have omega-3’s that help to produce HDL, the good type of cholesterol. Overall, fatty fish, like salmon and mackerel, are great for your heart and preventing strokes.

Avocados

There are a ton of nutrients in avocados. If you had to choose one food to eat for the rest of your life, avocados would be a great choice. That’s how healthy they are for you. They have a lot of fiber and monounsaturated fats, which help to lower “bad” cholesterol and increase “good” cholesterol.

Fruits

Yes, avocados are a fruit. However, there are other types of fruit that will lower cholesterol. Fruits have high levels of soluble fiber which lower cholesterol levels. How do fruits do that? Well, let me tell you. The fiber works as a coach. It helps motivate your body to get rid of cholesterol in your blood that you don’t need. Also, it stops your liver from overly producing cholesterol.

Dark Chocolate

Now, I’m not a fan of dark chocolate. However, it’s a great way to lower cholesterol. The main ingredient in dark chocolate is cocoa. Cocoa helps to prevent bad cholesterol from oxidizing. When bad cholesterol oxidizes it becomes dangerous. Oxidized cholesterol is what causes heart disease. Be careful, though. Dark chocolate is still chocolate. That means that it is high in sugar and can still hurt your heart if you eat too much of it.

Conclusion

Since high cholesterol doesn’t present symptoms, you should get yourself tested if you feel like you could have high cholesterol. It’s a preventable condition and eating these delicious and nutritious foods is a great way to help your heart to stay healthy.
