Luckily, many cities have taken this seriously and made serious efforts to be environmentally mindful. We will go over the most eco friendly cities in the world and what we can do at home to make some positive changes.

What Are Some of the Most Eco Friendly Cities in the World?

When we know the most eco friendly cities in the world and what they did to become that way, we can follow suit and make some serious changes. Here is a list of some of the most eco friendly cities in the world.

Copenhagen is widely known as one of the most environmentally conscious cities in the entire world. Denmark makes the planet a priority, and the people have done their part, too.

There are fewer people on the road in Copenhagen than anywhere else in the world, with only 24% of people owning cars.

To further limit the number of emissions being put into the air, the government plans to change all public transit to electric by 2019. They also plan to plant 100,000 new greenery by 2025, emitting fresh, clean air into our world.

Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm recognized a solution to a problem when it realized that a lot of heat from its large 30,000 person stadium was being wasted. Instead of allowing this heat to go to waste.

Stockholm was resourceful and found a way to use this heat to warm up over 1,000 apartments. That’s something all big cities should look into. On top of that, the government plans to eliminate fossil fuels by the year 2025.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is another city, like Copenhagen, where biking is the number one method of transportation. For those that do drive, the government encourages driving electric vehicles by putting over 300 charging ports around town.

Solar panels on homes and growing personal gardens with fruits and vegetables are popular in local homes.

Support Local Politicians Who Have the Same Views

When a city has local elections, many of us don’t even take the time to vote. Take the time to learn about your candidates and learn who will be the best option for the planet. While most of the time, liberal candidates focus more on the environment, don’t make that assumption without learning the facts.

If you can, campaign for your favorite candidates and get involved in local politics yourself to help give a voice to people who want to focus on making eco-friendly changes.

Start at Home

Start making changes at your own house. Some of the things you can do at home include:

  • grow fruits and vegetables
  • plant trees
  • walk and ride your bike more
  • install solar panels on your roof
  • recycle
  • avoid single-use plastics
  • use reusable grocery bags and avoid plastic bags when possible
  • turn off the heat
  • teach your children about how to be environmentally friendly

Introduce Your Own Proposals for Change

Some people think they can’t make a difference. That’s not true! If you have a plan, go to someone with it. Present your plan in a professional and articulate way, look for support, and be the change that your city so desperately needs.

If you aren’t sure what you should focus on, look into improving public transportation, recycling projects, or clean drinking water. Focus on one item at a time. When you pick a topic, develop a plan with facts and a realistic solution.

Even if you don’t get the support you need to get the project off the ground, awareness toward a problem is a great start!

We should copy some of the most eco friendly cities in the world and support legislation and mimic ideas that have been effective in those cities.
