Item Specifics

Peak Natural Sunscreen is a eco-friendly, biodegradable sunscreen. Biodegradable sunscreen is fairly self explanatory. Just like any other biodegradable product, the best biodegradable sunscreen is able to breakdown naturally into organic components. In terms of sunscreen, this happens after it is exposed to moisture, heat, and natural micro organisms. This makes the best biodegradable sunscreen very environmentally friendly because it minimizes the impact that the sunscreen has on plant and animal life. How do biodegradable sunblocks do this? Well, it is actually rather simple. The biggest difference between the best biodegradable sunscreen and regular sunscreens is the ingredients and chemicals that are used. More specifically, biodegradable sunscreens do not include environmentally harmful ingredients, some of which are hormone disrupters.

Now, to tell whether or not this product is truly biodegradable, you have to peak under the hood and see what is inside. As for Peak Natural Sunscreen, the ingredients are as follows: Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide 6.00% Sunscreen Zinc oxide 6.00% Sunscreen Inactive Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) extract, beeswax, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, daucus carota sativa (carrot) extract, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, punica granatum (pomegranate) extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E). As you can tell, there are no artificial or chemical ingredients. Every one of the inactive ingredients are plant or mineral based. This means that it is in fact biodegradable. In addition, the zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are both non-nano sized, making it safe for marine invertebrates.

Features

There are a lot of great features that Peak Natural Sunscreen has. In terms of UV protection, this product gives you SPF 30, which is a mid-range protection. If you are someone who is easily burned, you may need something a big more powerful. However for the average person, this level of SPF is perfect, maybe even too strong, depending on how you like your tan. It is also sweat and water resistant up to 80 minutes, which is great if you plan on swimming a lot.

The formula is completely natural, with many of the ingredients being plant and mineral based. It is also hypoallergenic, meaning that it does not contain any of the known allergens in its formula. All of this is awesome, especially for kids who struggle with a lot of allergies. The last thing you want is to have an allergic reaction to your sunscreen right at the start of your holiday.

One very unique thing about this sunscreen is that it is a mineral based sunscreen. Unlike conventional sunscreens, which contain ingredients that are absorbed into the skin, this mineral sunscreen sits on the skin’s surface. Its unique formulation nourishes the skin as it protects. Free of parabens, phthalates, and other questionable chemicals, this sunblock is non-allergenic, safe for all skin types, coral and reef safe, and biodegradable.

About This Company

Peak Natural Sunscreen is owned by Peak Products. They were founded with the idea to create a product that was natural, high quality, and affordable. It was all started because the founders wanted to make available quality, natural products that they were not finding any where else. As they started to get their products out there, they found that others were of the same mind set, and they inadvertently joined a larger community of environmentally conscious natural beauty enthusiasts.

While Peak Products product line is not that expansive, what they do have available is high quality and natural. Their products include Jasmine Sea Salt Scrub, Peak Natural Suncreen, Rose Sea Salt Scrub, and Vitamin C Serum. All are made with 100% natural ingredients and are not only environmentally safe, but safe for your body as well.

Pros:

Peak Natural Sunscreen is an all natural product. Each and every ingredient is either derived from a specific plant or mineral. It also does not contain any of the ingredients that are harmful to coral or marine life.

This sunscreen is free of a lot of bad stuff. Some of the chemicals Peak Natural Sunscreen is free of include PABA, Parabens, Phthalates, Phosphates, and any synthetic fragrances and dyes.

It's mineral design allows for nourishment of the skin, along with protection from the sun. It also does this without use of any chemicals.

In terms of UV protection, you get 30 SPF with this sunscreen. In addition, it also give you a broad spectrum of protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Cons:

Since it is a mineral sunscreen, it does not "rub in" to the skin as a lotion would. This is a complaint that various people had, but many did mention that while they did not like how it did not rub in like they are used to, it was an effective sunscreen.

Other complaints revolve around the aroma of the sunscreen which few described as to be rancid. While the smell of your sunscreen is not entirely important when it comes to protecting your skin from the sun, it can be an annoyance.

Final Thoughts:

The biggest complaint was that the product in the bottle was separated when it arrived. Many have reported not being able to combine the liquid oil that was separated from a hard, white substance on the bottom. The bottom is most likely the mineral build-up which is to be expected from a mineral sunblock. Plus, since this is a natural product and does not contain any preservatives, the separating is completely normal. While having to shake the contents to combine the sunscreen may be a bit annoying, it does not take away from the effectiveness of the sunscreen.
