Initial Thoughts

When it comes to peanut butter, there are a lot of options to choose from. Not all choices are the same. Many of the peanut butter products consumed are extremely high calorie and contain a large amount of fat and sugars. Sure, they taste great, but peanut butter can really expand the waistline. The key to healthy peanut butter is cutting the artificial ingredients, and finding all natural ingredients that are full of nutrients, specifically protein. Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter has made a great tasting peanut butter using only the necessary ingredients

Ingredients

Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter uses only the necessary ingredients needed to make any nut butter. The nut and salt. In this case, the nut are dry roasted peanuts. That is literally it, there is not added sugar, no oils, no preservatives. Because there are no extra ingredients, this product is gluten free, Non-GMO, and 100% vegan. So if you are looking for just the bare bones of peanut butter, this is the stuff for you!

Specifics

When looking at the nutritional facts for Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter, it looks all pretty much the same as most. However, there are a few differences that do matter. Going down the list of the nutritional sheet, you get 16g of fat, including 2.5 g of saturated fat, 125 mg of sodium, 7g of carbs including 3 g of dietary fiber, 2g of total sugars, and then 8g of protein.

Now, the only difference between this peanut butter and others with the same ingredients is the sodium count. This product has a lot of sodium in it, which is not entirely the best and can make the butter overly salty. Other than that, everything else is pretty much standard when compared to other peanut butters.

Organic Peanut Butter

The term "natural" is thrown around a lot when it comes to marketing and branding products. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of regulations or standards around that term. It is not like Organic, which has a seal certified by the USDA behind it to back up the claims. However, the natural world is not a barren wasteland. For a product to be labelled natural peanut butter, it has to contain 90% peanuts with no artificial sweeteners, colors, or preservatives. But that is pretty much it. Many natural peanut butter products still contain a bunch of stuff that you probably do not want in your body. So what does the best natural peanut butter actually have in it? Well peanuts of course, and a pinch of salt. That is it. Honestly, that is literally it. No oils, no sugars, so additives. Just peanuts and salt. A bit surprising right?

There are a lot of "natural" peanut butter products out there and most of the time you have to struggle with that weird separation of the oils from the butter. This is because they add various oils in the butter to give it that consistency and to make it easier to spread. And you will get this issue with the best natural peanut butter as well, but it will be rare. Truly natural peanut butter does have natural oils which may separate from the butter, but it will not be as much as when other oils are added.

Because of the nature of the ingredients in organic peanut butter, the product will separate. Without proper mixing, the peanut butter will be very oily and runny. It can be hard to spread and it may create a big mess. When you first open the bottle, make sure to mix it thoroughly. Light separation may happen again, and additional stirring may be required. Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter, like any other all-natural peanut butter, will also need to be refrigerated if you don’t plan on finishing it within a month of opening it. The oils that separate can go rancid. Be aware of this problem, especially if you live in a really warm place.

About This Company

Teddie has been making natural peanut butter since 1925. The company began making peanut butter as an affordable source of protein during the Great Depression and has since become the number one peanut butter brand in New England. Now, they are the official peanut butter brand of Best Buddies Interantional, which is an organization that does outreach programs for people with down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Teddie is also a huge supporter of the Greater Boston Food Bank, a proud sponsor of Trifest for MS and Team Endurance, and other community outreach organizations.

Pros:

Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter plays no games. They only use dry roasted peanuts and salt. No additives, no preservatives, no added sugar. only the stuff necessary for making peanut butter.

This peanut butter is entirely organic, vegan, GMO-free, Kosher, dairy free, and has no trans fats. Nothing has been added except for the most natural ingredients. Oh, and it is 100% made in the USA.

Cons:

The sodium content in Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter is pretty high. It contains 125mg and various customers have complained about the product being too salty.

Some reviews have claimed that their peanut butter has shown up with the label covered in oil and the safety seal broken. If this happens, do not eat the peanut butter. It is unclear if this is a problem with the packaging of the peanut butter or the transport. There are actually quite a few people with this same complaint for it to be an anomaly.

Final Thoughts:

While excess salt is the only issue, it is still an issue. A lot of sodium is not entirely good for your health. Excess sodium can increase blood pressure because it hold excess fluid in the body and that creates an added burden on the heart. Too much sodium will increase your risk of stroke, heart failure, osteroporosis, stomach cancer, and kidney disease. Now I am not saying that eating this will cause all of those issues, but the high sodium content wouldn't help.

Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter, Smooth Conclusion

This is definitely the most natural peanut butter you are going to find. I am not going to say this is the best, or the only product with these types of ingredients, but in terms of natural peanut butter, this hits it on the nose. If only the sodium content was not so high. Nevertheless, if you want to give it a try, you can grab yourself a pack of 5 for $17.64.
